Our animals
Highland cattle
What is to be considered?
Our highland cattle are extremely good-natured animals thanks to their many years of breeding. Highland cattle originally come from Scotland. It has been bred in Austria since 1985 and kept outdoors all year round in a natural and species-appropriate manner. Living in herds and on alpine pastures enables our highland cattle to live out their instincts and lead an animal-friendly life.
They are attentive, for example to protect their young animals from danger. To ensure that there are no misunderstandings between people and herd animals, you should follow a few rules.
The most important tips:
- Observe the animals from a distance, as you would with wild animals.
- Teach respectful behavior to your children – for the sake of their own safety and animal welfare.
- Please behave quietly, without making noise or shouting.
- Do not stand between the young animals and the mother animals, even for a quick photo/selfie.
- Do not touch or feed the animals.
- For mountain bikers: Please drive past the herd at walking pace.
- Keep dogs on a leash and keep enough distance from the herd! If grazing cattle attack the dog, simply let it run to protect itself. The dog is always faster than attacking grazing cattle and can easily get itself to safety. Avoid eye contact and increase the distance. Take dog excrement with you and do not “dispose” filled dog bags in the forest.
